Renewable Energy Means Creation of Jobs for Everyone

from:

Renewable energy is a new growth area.

The aforementioned statement is quite true. After the ratification of the Climate Change Convention by the United Nations in 1992 and the drafting of the Kyoto Protocol in 1997, different countries, especially developed countries, are starting to patronize the use of renewable energy.

Aside from the environmental impacts due to combustion of fossil fuels, the importation cost of such fuels is now increasing. The world’s energy needs started to increase, yet the production and sources of fossil fuels are limited. It results to much higher energy cost that affects residential, commercial, and industrial consumers.

That is why development of renewable energy is now at its peak. Developed countries are now starting to use renewable energy and develop related technologies to further enhance its energy production capability. United Kingdom, for instance, is committed to have 10 percent of their electricity generated from renewable energy sources by 2010 and further increasing it in 20 percent by 2020. It is a part of reducing their dependence on imported fossil fuels and at the same time reducing emissions of greenhouse gases that causes drastic climate change.

In addition, not only our economy and environment are benefiting from the renewable energy. Development of renewable energy technologies and expanding its operation also means the creation of new jobs of different field of specialization.

For instance, the British Wind Energy Association (BWEA) estimated that further development of their wind turbines which is situated off-shores has a potential of creating more than 5,000 engineering jobs and some 19,000 jobs for non-technical jobs. Wind power plants need skilled personnel with regards in maintaining its operation. It also includes planning and resource personnel to conduct extensive research on other areas with potential wind energy generation. Non-technical includes communication, marketing, and human resource personnel. In other words, single renewable energy source can actually generate thousands of jobs of different disciplines.

Additional jobs are not only created in these renewable energy power plants but also to the manufacturing industry as well. Take for instance the rapid development of photovoltaic (PV) systems which are now used by different households in the United States. If the demand for such system further increases, manufacturing firm of solar systems will hire additional personnel to increase their production. Other areas of concern such as sales and maintenance services will also yield in hiring more employees. Once renewable energy is further developed, it can generate more than 8,000 jobs of different specialization.

The energy sector further enhances the capability of both technical and non-technical workers in the renewable energy field by giving them seminars and lectures about their work. Trainings are also conducted especially when it comes on new technologies which will be integrated with the present system. This will help people enhance their skills and expertise better in renewable energy.

The federal government also takes part in the creation of renewable energy jobs by awarding grants to different investors who want to take part in the development of the renewable energy field. New big businesses mean creation of new jobs across the country.

Power job forums and job fairs are also initiated to attract more people to devote their skills and expertise in enhancing the capability of these renewable energies to sustain our energy needs.

Renewable energy offers lot of opportunity for us. Now, it offers us the job that we are looking for. Do not hesitate to take the chance. Take part and be one of people who are making living in this world better through renewable energy.
